OpenAI API

OpenAI API is OpenAI's developer platform, launched in private beta in June 2020 alongside the GPT-3 model. The platform provides developers and organizations with access to OpenAI's language, multimodal, and agentic models through a standardized REST API.

The platform offers access to text generation models (GPT-5, o-series), image generation, audio models (transcription, text-to-speech), embedding models, and tools for building AI agents (Responses API, Agents SDK). Official client libraries are available for Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, and Go. The platform includes a developer dashboard with tools for project management, API key management, usage monitoring, and model evaluation.

At the enterprise tier, the platform provides SAML SSO, RBAC, Audit Logs API, data residency in selected regions (US, Europe, UK, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Singapore, Australia, India, UAE), and SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certifications. Billing models include token-based pay-as-you-go, Scale Tier with purchased throughput and a 99.9% uptime SLA, and Batch API with a 50% discount.
