"Claude Docs" is a colloquial name for Claude's (Anthropic) ability to create and edit text documents — it is not a separate, branded product. The functionality is delivered through two official paths: (1) the file-creation feature in Claude.ai ("Upgraded file creation and analysis"), which lets Claude generate and edit Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), Excel (.xlsx) and PDF files directly in chat, and (2) the Claude for Word add-in from the Claude for Microsoft 365 suite, enabling drafting, tracked-change redlining and comment-driven document review.
File creation entered preview on September 9, 2025 and reached general availability on October 21, 2025 for paid plans (Max, Team, Enterprise first, then Pro), enabled under Settings → Features. The Claude for Word add-in installs from Microsoft AppSource and runs on the user's Claude account.
