Claude Tag

Claude Tag is an Anthropic product that puts the Claude assistant directly into Slack channels with admin-governed access. Anyone in a channel can tag @Claude and hand it work — reproduce a bug and open a pull request, turn a decision thread into a doc, or assemble the state of a project. Claude posts a progress checklist in the thread, and the whole exchange stays visible to the channel.

In channels Claude acts under its own service accounts, not as the person who tagged it. An admin sets its access to external systems — repositories, data warehouses, monitoring, ticketing — per channel, per workspace, or across all of Slack. Each thread runs in an ephemeral cloud sandbox built on the same engine that powers Claude Code on the web; the sandbox is released when the thread goes quiet and rebuilt on the next reply.

Claude Tag is available on Team and Enterprise plans (Anthropic's first-party service), not on individual plans (Free, Pro, Max) or third-party deployments. At the time of writing it is in public beta. Billing is usage-based: channel, thread and group-DM work draws from the organization's usage balance under a monthly spend limit, with no per-seat charge. An organization Owner sets it up once at claude.ai/admin-settings/claude-tag, pairing the Slack workspace with an "@Claude connect" command. It replaces the earlier per-user Claude in Slack / Claude Code in Slack app.

Each thread runs in an isolated sandbox that holds no credentials — they live in a separate store and are injected by an Agent Proxy only at request time. Outbound traffic is default-deny. Admins control access per channel / workspace / all of Slack, can restrict who uses Claude, disable direct messages and set spend limits.

Upd. 22 Oct 2026

Anthropic stores session transcripts and channel/workspace memory; during the beta there is no automatic retention period. Editing or deleting a Slack message does not remove it from the transcript. Not available to organizations with Zero Data Retention (ZDR), a CMEK policy or the HIPAA configuration. Actions in connected tools are attributed to the agent's service accounts.
