Live Transcribe

Live Transcribe is a free Google accessibility app for Android that converts speech and ambient sounds into on-screen text in real time. It was designed for deaf and hard-of-hearing people to help them take part in everyday conversations.

The app uses Google's speech recognition technology and supports over 70 languages and dialects, letting users set a primary and a secondary language and quickly switch between them during bilingual conversations. Besides transcribing speech, it can recognise and signal non-speech sounds such as a doorbell, an alarm, laughter or music.

Live Transcribe was released on 4 February 2019 in partnership with Gallaudet University and runs on devices with Android 5.0 and later. On select, more powerful phones it offers offline transcription, and transcript history is stored locally for at most three days. The app has been linked with the Sign-Language-to-Text (SL2T) model for sign language recognition.
