Notion AI

Notion AI is the AI layer built into the Notion platform — originally launched in February 2023 as a writer/summarizer, in 2025-2026 expanded into a rich agentic stack with Notion Agent, Custom Agents, AI Meeting Notes, Enterprise Search, and Research Mode. It positions itself as "your 24/7 AI team" — a collective of AI agents integrated where the team already works (the Notion workspace), with direct access to all pages, databases, calendar, and connected external apps.

Notion Agent is a conversational chat agent embedded in the workspace, capable of creating and editing pages and databases, using context from Notion and connected apps (Slack, Google Drive, GitHub, Jira, Asana, and more). Custom Agents are dedicated user-defined agents with time-based or event-based triggers — they perform recurring team work (answering Slack support tickets, routing tasks, sending weekly reports) 24/7 without human intervention. They enter the Notion credits system on 4 May 2026 (USD 10 per 1,000 credits, add-on to Business/Enterprise). The distinction between Notion Agent (interactive) and Custom Agents (automated) is central.

AI Meeting Notes automatically attends meetings with no bot, transcribes conversations, generates summaries and action items written directly into Notion. Enterprise Search (in beta) searches across the workspace + Slack + Google Drive + GitHub and other apps from a single search box. Research Mode generates detailed reports and deep summaries. AI Blocks embed inline AI directly in pages (writing, refactoring, translation). Autofill populates database properties automatically. Model-agnostic: admins can switch any workflow to a different model (OpenAI GPT-4/GPT-5, Anthropic Claude, and others) without losing context.

Pricing (mid-2026): Free (Notion AI trial), Plus (basic paid tier), Business (Notion Agent, Custom Agents, AI Meeting Notes, Enterprise Search — all AI features included), Enterprise (Business plus SAML SSO, HIPAA compliance, zero data retention with LLM providers, audit logs, admin governance controls). Custom Agents are billed separately via Notion credits — USD 10 per 1,000 credits as an add-on. Free Custom-Agent usage until 3 May 2026; from 4 May 2026 the credits system is mandatory. Notion AI Meeting Notes and Enterprise Search available on Business and above at no extra charge.

Enterprise-grade security: no training on user data (contractual agreements with LLM providers), SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, GDPR/CCPA compliance, TLS 1.2+ encryption in transit, zero data retention with LLMs for Enterprise (30 days for non-Enterprise), HIPAA compliance for Enterprise (using zero-retention APIs). Enterprise customers: OpenAI, Figma, Ramp, NVIDIA, Braintrust. The Notion Connections layer to Slack, Google Drive, GitHub, Salesforce, Zendesk, HubSpot, Asana, Jira, Microsoft Teams, and many others gives Notion AI context from the team's entire work, not just Notion.
