Runway Media Router (Model Router) is - according to Runway - the world's first model router for generative media, built into the Runway Dev platform and launched on July 23, 2026. It automatically selects the best video, image or audio model for each request, doing for media what intelligent routing does for language models (LLMs).
It works on preferences: in the Runway Dev portal the user sets a priority among cost, latency and quality, names a config, sets a price cap and allow/deny lists of models and providers. The request is sent to the Media Router endpoint with a config ID, without specifying a model. The router rejects models that fail hard constraints (capability fit, allow/deny lists, price cap), scores the rest against the preferences, generates with the highest-scoring model and returns the result with metadata (which model and why). A dry-run flag validates the selection at no cost.
Media Router spans Runway's own models (including Gen-4.5, Aleph 2.0, Act-Two) and third-party models available in Runway Dev (including Seedance, GPT Image 2, ElevenLabs). It solves manual selection and constant code updates for a fast-moving model catalog, reducing cost and latency at scale. It works for video, image and audio.
