Tencent Yuanbao (腾讯元宝) is Tencent’s consumer AI assistant, available as a mobile app (iOS, Android), a web app, and a WeChat mini-program. It combines Tencent’s own Hunyuan models with DeepSeek models (R1 and V3), which users can switch between in the interface.
Key features
Yuanbao offers general-purpose conversation, AI search with source citations, a deep-thinking (reasoning) mode, document reading and summarization, image understanding, image generation, and translation. A standout capability is search grounded in WeChat Official Accounts content, which public search engines can access only in limited form.
Market significance
After integrating DeepSeek R1 in early 2025 and an aggressive promotion push (including inside WeChat search), Yuanbao briefly became the most-downloaded free app on China’s App Store, overtaking the DeepSeek app itself. The product is free and aimed primarily at the Chinese market.
