The robot places sensors to cover the full perimeter (360°), and their data are combined (sensor fusion). AI algorithms detect and localize people and estimate their distance and motion. On that basis the safety layer makes decisions: maintain distance, slow down, stop, or communicate intent. In safety-certified systems, critical detection functions are often run on dedicated, separate hardware, independent of the main compute.
It enables robots to work in close proximity to people without physical cages or barriers, eliminating blind spots and shortening reaction time to hazards.
