Cybersecurity research covers AI-model use for both offensive and defensive tasks: automated vulnerability detection (memory corruption, injection, auth bypass), source-code CVE analysis, proof-of-concept exploit generation, penetration testing and threat modelling. Frontier models such as Claude Mythos 5 have reached a level of capability that finds thousands of high/critical severity flaws in critical software (e.g. Mozilla found 271 Firefox vulnerabilities in two weeks using Mythos Preview). It is a dual-use application — it can serve both defence and offensive attacks, which is why access is usually restricted to vetted partners.
