Which group Ouster OS1 (REV8) belongs to and how it is built
3D LiDAR Sensors are a subcategory of sensing components that use laser radiation to measure distance and construct three-dimensional representations of the environment. These sensors are used in robotics for space mapping, localization, autonomous navigation, obstacle avoidance, and building 3D perception systems. Depending on the model, they can provide point clouds with varying resolution, frequency, and range, supporting mobile robots, humanoid platforms, and autonomous systems.
LiDAR is a distance sensor that uses laser beams to measure space and generate data about the surrounding environment. In robotics, it is used for navigation, SLAM, mapping, obstacle avoidance, and environmental perception. Depending on the model, it can provide 2D, 3D, or more advanced spatial representations. LiDAR is one of the primary sensors in mobile, autonomous, and humanoid robots.

Long-range Ouster REV8 3D LiDAR with 256 channels, 500 m max range, native color, and ASIL-B / SIL-2 / PLd / IP68 certifications.
Ultra-wide FOV Ouster REV8 3D LiDAR with 90° field of view, designed for robotics, warehouse automation, and industrial applications.
Hemispherical Ouster REV8 3D LiDAR with 180° field of view, designed for security monitoring, smart infrastructure, and autonomous systems.
Ouster OS1 (REV8) is a mid-range digital 3D LiDAR sensor from the eighth-generation Ouster REV8 family, announced by Ouster, Inc. on 4 May 2026. It occupies the "mid-range" segment of the REV8 lineup and is positioned for automotive, autonomous mobility, industrial robotics, and smart-infrastructure applications.
OS1 features 128 vertical channels, a 44° field of view, and produces up to 10.4 million points per second, delivering 3D data with native color thanks to the proprietary L4 Ouster Silicon chip (developed with a Fujifilm color-science partnership). The L4 architecture provides 42.9 GMACS of processing power and streams a color image alongside the point cloud, eliminating the need for a separate camera and sensor-fusion pipeline.
The sensor carries a full functional-safety certification package: ASIL-B (ISO 26262), SIL-2 (IEC 61508), PLd (ISO 13849), and cybersecurity per ISO 21434. The enclosure meets IP68 / IP69K environmental ratings, operates from -40 °C to +85 °C, and withstands mechanical shock up to 100 G and vibration up to 10 G-rms.
OS1 is Buy America(n) and NDAA compliant, qualifying it for U.S. infrastructure and defense procurement. It is manufactured at Ouster facilities in the United States and Thailand. The REV8 family also includes OS1 Max (long-range, 256 channels), OS0 (ultra-wide, 90° FOV), and OSDome (hemispherical, 180° FOV).
