The institute tests leading AI systems before public release, collaborates with AI companies on safety improvements, advises policymakers across the UK and allied governments, and funds research (over £15 million in grants). It releases open-source evaluation tools such as Inspect. Research areas include cyber misuse, safeguards, alignment, control, autonomy, human influence and societal resilience.
