Discord

Discord Inc. is an American technology company headquartered in San Francisco, maker of the Discord communication platform. The company was founded in 2015 by Jason Citron and Stanislav Vishnevskiy and initially operated under the name Hammer & Chisel. The platform enables text chat, voice (VoIP) calls, video calls and media sharing in private conversations and in communities called servers. Originally aimed at gamers, Discord has expanded to general online communities. Its business model is based on a free core service and the paid Discord Nitro subscription. The company remains private, having raised around $1B in venture funding and reaching an estimated valuation of about $15B in 2021.
