Discovery Loop

Discovery Loop is a US public benefit corporation founded in 2026, building autonomous artificial intelligence capable of running the scientific method itself. The company's goal is to create systems that automate the full scientific experiment loop - proposing experiments, implementing them, evaluating results and iterating - at a scale and speed exceeding sequential human effort, so that 'AI closes every research loop itself'. Initially the company focuses on automating machine-learning research and engineering, with plans to expand into chip design, biology, drug discovery and materials science. The company's launch was announced on August 5, 2026. Discovery Loop was co-founded by four Google AI veterans: Jeff Dean (former Chief Scientist of Google), Sanjay Ghemawat (Google Senior Fellow), Oriol Vinyals (VP of Research at Google DeepMind, technical lead of Gemini) and Quoc Le (co-founder of Google Brain). Its founding investor and Cloud partner is Alphabet (Google), which also supplies compute for the first year; investors also include Khosla Ventures and Radical Ventures (funding amount and valuation undisclosed). The company is building a lean, in-person founding team.
