Drexel University is a private research university (R1 classification) based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, founded in 1891 by financier and philanthropist Anthony J. Drexel as the Drexel Institute of Art, Science and Industry. The university pioneered cooperative education (its "co-op" program, introduced in 1919), combining academic study with full-time professional placements. Drexel conducts research in robotics and autonomous systems — the Drexel Autonomous Systems Lab hosted the Jaemi Hubo humanoid robot, brought in through a partnership with KAIST and an NSF PIRE grant. Its main campus is located in the University City district of Philadelphia.
