FAR.AI (Frontier Alignment Research; formerly FAR AI / Fund for Alignment Research) is an American 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded in 2022 by Adam Gleave (CEO) and Karl Berzins (President/COO), based in Berkeley, California. Its mission is to ensure advanced AI is trustworthy, secure and beneficial for everyone. FAR.AI conducts technical AI safety and alignment research - including robustness, deception detection, value learning, red teaming and vulnerabilities of superhuman systems (e.g. demonstrated flaws in superhuman Go systems). The organization incubates diverse technical research agendas. Beyond research, FAR.AI does field-building: it runs an internationally distributed series of Alignment Workshops connecting researchers from labs, universities and institutions. It is funded by donations and grants. Adam Gleave earned a PhD in AI from UC Berkeley under Stuart Russell and previously worked at Google DeepMind.
