Georgetown University is a private, Catholic (Jesuit) research university in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Founded in 1789 by Bishop John Carroll, it is the oldest Catholic institution of higher education in the United States. It is classified as R1 (Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity) and enrolls about 20,000 students. Its schools include the Walsh School of Foreign Service, McDonough School of Business, Georgetown University Law Center and the School of Medicine, plus a campus in Education City, Doha (Qatar). The Walsh School hosts the Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET), which analyzes the security implications of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
