Google Brain

Google Brain was Google's deep learning and artificial intelligence research team. Founded in 2011 within Google X by Andrew Ng, Jeff Dean, and Greg Corrado, it was based in Mountain View, California. The team was responsible for the TensorFlow framework (2015), the Transformer architecture (2017), Word2vec, Google Neural Machine Translation, and the Imagen text-to-image model, among others. In April 2023, the Brain team (part of Google Research) was merged with DeepMind to form Google DeepMind, led by Demis Hassabis, while Jeff Dean became Google's Chief Scientist. Google Brain ceased to exist as a separate entity.
