Google Labs is an experimental division of Google (a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc.), described as "Google’s home for the latest AI experiments." The Google Labs brand was established in 2002 as a platform for early, experimental Google products and features (Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Wave all debuted in Labs) and was shut down in July 2011. Google revived the Labs brand internally in November 2021, with a public relaunch in 2023 at Google I/O focused on generative AI. Today Google Labs gives early adopters access to experimental AI tools (including NotebookLM, Google Flow, Jules, Stitch and Whisk), gathers feedback, and lets mature experiments "graduate" into full Google products.
