German IT-systems engineering / digital engineering institute in Potsdam, affiliated with the University of Potsdam and financed by the Hasso Plattner Foundation.
The Hasso Plattner Institute (Hasso-Plattner-Institut für Digital Engineering gGmbH, HPI) is a German computer science institute based in Potsdam, founded in 1998 by SAP co-founder Hasso Plattner. It is financed entirely from private funds through the Hasso Plattner Foundation and, together with the University of Potsdam, runs the Digital Engineering Faculty, offering bachelor's and master's degrees in IT-Systems Engineering. HPI educates around 1,000 students and employs about 389 staff. Its initiatives include the openHPI online course platform, the tele-TASK lecture archive, and the HPI School of Design Thinking (a cooperation with Stanford's d.school since 2007).
