Hitachi, Ltd. (株式会社日立製作所) is a Japanese technology and industrial conglomerate headquartered in Tokyo, founded in 1910 by the engineer Namihei Odaira. The company is listed on the Tokyo and Nagoya stock exchanges under code 6501 and is a component of the Nikkei 225 and TOPIX Core30 indices. The group's operations are organised around three main segments: Digital Systems & Services, Green Energy & Mobility, and Connective Industries (industrial systems). The core of its digital strategy is Lumada — a portfolio of solutions combining data analytics, IoT and artificial intelligence. Hitachi develops generative and agentic AI, including partnerships with Microsoft and NVIDIA, as well as data and storage technologies through its Hitachi Vantara subsidiary. The group also includes Hitachi Energy, Hitachi Rail, Hitachi Astemo and GlobalLogic. In the fiscal year ended 31 March 2025, consolidated revenue was approximately JPY 10.59 trillion (about USD 96 billion), and the group employed around 288,000 people.
