Huawei is a Chinese multinational technology company headquartered in Shenzhen, the world's largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer, also active in consumer electronics, semiconductors, cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. is a Chinese multinational technology company founded in 1987 in Shenzhen by Ren Zhengfei. The company began by manufacturing telephone switches and later expanded into building telecommunications network infrastructure across more than 170 countries. In 2012 it overtook Ericsson to become the world's largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer. Its main business areas span telecom and networking equipment, consumer electronics, semiconductors, cloud computing and artificial intelligence. Huawei remains a privately held company that is not publicly listed, with Huawei Investment & Holding as its parent entity. In 2024 the company employed about 208,000 people. Since 2019 Huawei has been subject to sanctions and trade restrictions from the United States and several other countries citing national security concerns.
