Academic robotics laboratory at The University of Osaka led by Prof. Hiroshi Ishiguro. Develops androids and geminoids for research on human-robot interaction.
The Intelligent Robotics Laboratory (Ishiguro Lab) is a research unit of the Graduate School of Engineering Science at The University of Osaka, led since 2003 by Prof. Hiroshi Ishiguro. The lab specialises in so-called android science — designing humanoid robots with a lifelike appearance and studying natural human-machine interaction (nonverbal communication, social presence, empathy). Its portfolio includes androids from the Actroid, Repliee, Geminoid, ERICA, Telenoid, Hugvie, CommU and Ibuki series. The team collaborates with ATR (Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International), the ERATO programme of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Symbiotic Intelligent Systems Research Center, among others. Ishiguro also serves as producer of the future-of-life pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka.
