Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg

Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU, University of Würzburg) is a public research university in Würzburg, Bavaria, Germany. It was founded in 1402 on the initiative of Prince-Bishop Johann von Egloffstein and, after a period of closure, re-established in 1582 by Prince-Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn. Its present name honours Julius Echter and King Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria. The university educates about 25,000 students across 10 faculties and employs approximately 5,100 staff. JMU conducts research in computer science and robotics (Chair of Computer Science XVII – Robotics, working on 3D scanning, SLAM and mobile robots), artificial intelligence and data science (Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, CAIDAS), and telematics and small-satellite technology. It is a member of the German U15 group and the Coimbra Group, and is associated with several Nobel laureates.
