The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) is a U.S. Department of Defense intelligence and combat support agency responsible for collecting, analyzing and distributing geospatial intelligence (GEOINT). It was established in 1996 as the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) and adopted its current name in 2003. Its headquarters (NGA Campus East) is in Springfield, Virginia. The agency makes heavy use of artificial intelligence and computer vision for satellite imagery analysis, including through initiatives such as Project Maven.
