Chinese public military research university in Changsha, affiliated with the Central Military Commission; known for developing the Tianhe supercomputers.
The National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) is a Chinese public military research university located in Changsha, Hunan Province, affiliated with the Central Military Commission. Its predecessor, the Military Academy of Engineering, was established in 1953 in Harbin, and the current university was created in 1978 in Changsha. NUDT played a key role in developing China’s Yinhe and Tianhe supercomputers (Tianhe-2 was the world’s fastest supercomputer from 2013 to 2016). The university has about 15,700 students and roughly 2,000 faculty, and operates 11 colleges and four national key laboratories.
