The PHP Foundation
Founded 2021The PHP Foundation is a collective of companies and individuals relying on the PHP language, established in November 2021 on the initiative of JetBrains in response to the departure of a key PHP core developer. Its mission is to ensure the long-term prosperity and stability of the PHP language. The Foundation contracts a team of full- and part-time core developers who handle maintenance, security, and the implementation of new features approved through the community's RFC process. It operates as a collective on the Open Collective platform, with Open Source Collective acting as its fiscal host. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors together with an Executive Director and an Advisory Board of major sponsor representatives. Its ten founding members are Acquia, Automattic, Craft CMS, JetBrains, Laravel, PrestaShop, Private Packagist, Symfony, Tideways, and Zend by Perforce. The Foundation does not control the RFC process; decisions about the language remain with the PHP Internals community.
