Planet Labs (Planet Labs PBC) is an American space-technology company focused on satellite Earth imaging and geospatial analytics, headquartered in San Francisco, California. The company was founded in 2010 (originally as Cosmogia, Inc.) by three former NASA staff: Will Marshall, Robbie Schingler and Chris Boshuizen. Planet designs, builds and operates its own satellite constellations — Dove/SuperDove nanosatellites (PlanetScope) providing near-daily imagery of Earth's entire landmass, high-resolution SkySat satellites, the next-generation Pelican, and hyperspectral Tanager satellites. Imagery and analytics are delivered to commercial, government and scientific customers through the Planet Insights Platform and APIs. In December 2021 the company went public on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: PL) via a merger with the special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC) dMY Technology Group IV. Planet operates as a Public Benefit Corporation and maintains offices in Berlin, Washington, Haarlem, Ljubljana, London and Graz, among others.
