American social platform and discussion aggregator organized into topic-based communities (subreddits); a significant supplier of training data for AI models.
Reddit is an American social platform and discussion aggregator founded in 2005 by Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian. The service is organized around topic-based communities called subreddits, where users post content, comment and vote (up/down). Reddit is a public company listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol RDDT (debut in March 2024), and its largest shareholder is Advance Publications. In the context of artificial intelligence, Reddit plays a significant role as a data source: the company has signed licensing deals making its content available for training AI models (including with Google and OpenAI) and launched the Reddit Answers feature powered by large language models. Its main revenue streams are advertising, data licensing and the Reddit Premium subscription.
