US AI startup building Skild Brain, a general-purpose, robot-agnostic robotics foundation model that controls many types of robots and tasks in the physical world.
Skild AI is a US physical-AI startup founded in 2023 as a spin-out of Carnegie Mellon University. The company develops Skild Brain, a unified, omni-bodied robotics foundation model designed to control many types of robots (arms, mobile robots, humanoids, quadrupeds) and perform diverse tasks — manipulation, locomotion and navigation — without prior knowledge of a robot's specific form. The model is trained at large scale, including in simulation (NVIDIA Isaac) and from human videos. Skild AI does not build proprietary hardware; it provides robot-agnostic software integrated into partners' robots (e.g. ABB, Universal Robots) and deployed with customers across security, construction, delivery, data centers, warehouses and factory assembly. It was founded by CMU professors Deepak Pathak (CEO) and Abhinav Gupta. It is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with a California team and its first international office in Bengaluru (2026).
