SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is a U.S. national research laboratory in Menlo Park, California. It was established in 1962 as the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center and adopted its current name in 2008. The laboratory is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (Office of Science) and operated by Stanford University. Its research spans particle physics, accelerator physics, photon science, astrophysics, cosmology and materials science. Key facilities include the Linac Coherent Light Source free-electron lasers (LCLS and LCLS-II), the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL) and FACET-II. SLAC built the world's largest digital camera for the Vera C. Rubin Observatory (LSST project).
