The Stanford Cyber Policy Center (CPC) is an interdisciplinary Stanford University research center studying issues at the nexus of technology, governance and public policy. It was established in June 2019 by founding co-directors Nathaniel Persily (Stanford Law School) and Dan Boneh (computer science), as a joint initiative of the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI) and Stanford Law School. The center brings together lawyers, computer scientists, social scientists and practitioners to analyze the impact of digital technologies on democracy, free speech, security and the public sphere. Its work spans AI governance, content moderation and trust & safety, election integrity and international digital policy. CPC conducts research, advises policymakers and companies, and hosts seminars and events (including a weekly Spring Seminar Series). It operates within Stanford University in California; its technology-and-policy work continues with a broader scope (including as the Tech Impact and Policy Center).
