SUSE (SUSE S.A.) is a German enterprise open-source software company founded in 1992 in Nuremberg. Its flagship product is SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES), a commercial, subscription-supported Linux distribution. The portfolio also includes the Rancher Kubernetes platform (commercial edition: Rancher Prime), the lightweight Kubernetes distribution K3s, SUSE Security (NeuVector) container security, the SUSE Edge computing platform, and the SUSE AI platform. The company sponsors the community distribution openSUSE. SUSE's business model is based on open-source software (open core) and paid enterprise support subscriptions. Historically SUSE was owned in turn by Novell (2004), Attachmate (2011), and Micro Focus (2014). Since 2019 it has been owned by the Swedish private equity firm EQT. It listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in May 2021, but in 2023 EQT took it private again and delisted it. Its operational headquarters is in Nuremberg, while the SUSE S.A. legal domicile is in Luxembourg.
