TechCrunch is an American online newspaper focused on the technology industry, startups and venture capital. It was founded in June 2005 by Michael Arrington and Keith Teare through Archimedes Ventures. AOL acquired it in 2010 for about $25 million; it was subsequently owned by Verizon Media (2015–2021) and by Yahoo! Inc. (an Apollo Global Management entity) from 2021 to 2025. In 2025 Yahoo sold TechCrunch to the private equity firm Regent, L.P.; the site now operates as TechCrunch Media LLC. TechCrunch is known for its annual TechCrunch Disrupt conference and the Startup Battlefield competition.
