Texas A&M University is a public land-grant research university based in College Station, Texas. Founded in 1876 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, it was the state's first public institution of higher education. It is the flagship of The Texas A&M University System and one of only 24 U.S. institutions holding the triple land-, sea- and space-grant designation. In fall 2024 it enrolled more than 79,000 students. The university conducts extensive research (roughly $1.4 billion in research expenditures in FY2024), and its College of Engineering is among the largest in the country. Its research areas include robotics, including work on mobile robots (e.g., the RoboBall project) and autonomous systems.
