Uber Eats is an online platform for ordering and delivering food and goods, operating as a part (subsidiary/service) of Uber Technologies, Inc. The service debuted in August 2014 as 'UberFRESH' in Santa Monica, then was renamed Uber Eats and spun out as a standalone app (initially in Toronto). It is headquartered in San Francisco. Its parent company - Uber Technologies (NYSE: UBER) - was founded in 2009 by Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick. As of 2026, Uber Eats operates in over 6,000 cities across 45 countries (including the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Japan, Australia, Mexico). In AI and robotics, Uber Eats tests and deploys autonomous delivery: sidewalk robots with Serve Robotics, Cartken, Motional and Starship Technologies (e.g. Los Angeles, Miami, England) and drone delivery trials; it also uses machine learning for recommendations, ETA prediction and logistics optimization.
