The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) is a U.S. federal service academy that educates cadets to become commissioned officers in the U.S. Air Force (USAF) and U.S. Space Force (USSF). It was established on April 1, 1954, and its first class graduated in 1959. The campus is located in Colorado, north of Colorado Springs. The academy awards Bachelor of Science degrees and provides education in engineering (including aeronautical and astronautical engineering), sciences, cyber operations, and the humanities and social sciences, combined with military training. USAFA also conducts federally funded research, including in autonomy, robotics, aeronautics, and defense technologies, and maintains dedicated research centers. It falls under the U.S. Department of the Air Force.
