University of California, San Diego

The University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego, UCSD) is a public research university founded on November 18, 1960, located in the La Jolla neighborhood of San Diego, California. It is one of the ten campuses of the University of California system and holds land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant designations. It enrolls more than 46,000 students (fall 2025) across 12 schools and 8 residential colleges. Its units include the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (1903), the Jacobs School of Engineering, the School of Medicine, and the San Diego Supercomputer Center. UC San Diego is among the world’s leading research institutions, including in computer science, artificial intelligence, and robotics (Contextual Robotics Institute).
