Departament Edukacji Stanów Zjednoczonych

The United States Department of Education (ED) is a cabinet-level department of the U.S. federal government. It was established by the Department of Education Organization Act, signed on October 17, 1979, and began operating on May 4, 1980. Its principal functions include administering and overseeing federal student financial aid, collecting and disseminating education data and research, coordinating federal education policy, and enforcing laws that prohibit discrimination and ensure equal access to education. Its headquarters is the Lyndon Baines Johnson Department of Education Building at 400 Maryland Avenue SW, Washington, D.C. The department is led by the Secretary of Education (Linda McMahon since March 2025). In 2025 the administration took steps to reduce and ultimately dismantle the department, including mass layoffs; full closure, however, requires an act of Congress.
