Visa

Visa (Visa Inc.) is an American company operating one of the world's largest electronic-payment networks. It does not issue cards directly but runs the network (VisaNet) connecting issuing banks, merchants and consumers, enabling authorization, clearing and settlement of card transactions at global scale. Visa's origins trace to the BankAmericard program launched in 1958; as an independent company, Visa Inc. went public in 2008. In AI, Visa has long used machine learning for real-time fraud detection (e.g. Visa Advanced Authorization, Visa Protect), analyzing huge transaction volumes. It is also developing payments for AI agents (agentic commerce) - the Visa Intelligent Commerce initiative aims to let trusted AI agents make purchases on users' behalf in an authorized, secure way. Visa is a public company listed on the NYSE under the ticker V, headquartered in San Francisco, operating globally. Visa's payments ecosystem is closely tied to security issues, including chargeback fraud.
