Walmart Inc. is an American retail corporation headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas, founded in 1962 by Sam Walton. It is the world's largest retailer by revenue and one of the largest employers globally. Its network covers hypermarkets, Walmart Supercenter stores, Sam's Club warehouses and the walmart.com e-commerce platform. The company also runs Walmart Global Tech (formerly Walmart Labs), a technology arm developing cloud systems, AI and supply-chain automation, including the Sparky shopping assistant launched in 2024. Walmart is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker WMT, is a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average and is controlled by the Walton family — the company's largest shareholders.
