Warner Chappell Music, Inc. is a global music publishing company and the publishing arm of Warner Music Group. It was formed in 1987, when Warner Music Group acquired the British publisher Chappell & Co. (founded in 1811 in London) and merged it with its own publishing divisions. Warner Chappell handles music publishing, administration of copyrights in compositions and lyrics, and royalty collection on behalf of songwriters and composers. Its catalog spans more than 1.4 million compositions and over 150,000 songwriters, with offices in more than 40 countries. Alongside Sony Music Publishing and Universal Music Publishing Group, it is considered one of the three largest music publishers in the world. The company is led by Guy Moot (CEO and co-chair) and Carianne Marshall (COO and co-chair). In recent years, lyric-rights catalogs have become central to licensing disputes over the training of generative AI models.
