Waymo LLC is an American autonomous driving technology company and a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. It began as Google’s self-driving car project, launched on 17 January 2009, and was spun out and renamed Waymo on 13 December 2016. It is headquartered in Mountain View, California, and has been led since 2021 by co-CEOs Tekedra Mawakana and Dmitri Dolgov. Its main product is Waymo One — a fully autonomous robotaxi service operating in cities including Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin and Atlanta — powered by the Waymo Driver system that combines sensors (LiDAR, radar, cameras), software and AI models. Waymo remains privately held; in 2026 it raised a US$16B round at a valuation of about US$126B.
