The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a sovereign state in Western Europe, with its capital in Luxembourg City, bordering Belgium, France and Germany. It is a constitutional monarchy (a grand duchy) and one of the founding members of the European Union, as well as the seat of several EU institutions. Following the decline of its steel industry in the 1970s, the country developed into a global financial centre and a knowledge-based economy. The state pursues an active public-investment policy, including in the space sector (a national space programme and the 2017 space resources law) and digital technologies.
