Y Combinator (YC) is an American startup accelerator and seed fund based in San Francisco, founded in 2005 by Paul Graham, Jessica Livingston, Robert Tappan Morris and Trevor Blackwell. Twice a year YC runs accelerator batches, investing in startups in exchange for equity and offering funding, mentorship and access to a vast network of alumni and investors. Companies that went through YC include Airbnb, Dropbox, Stripe, Coinbase, DoorDash, Reddit and — in its early stage — OpenAI. YC is especially active in funding AI startups (e.g. Andon Labs). Since 2023 its President and CEO is Garry Tan. The company also runs the Hacker News site and the Startup School education program.
