The company is one of the pioneers of distributed control systems (DCS) — it introduced the CENTUM system in 1975. Today Yokogawa's portfolio spans process control systems, field instruments (pressure transmitters, flow meters, analyzers), safety instrumented systems (ProSafe-RS) and the integrated OpreX solutions brand. Yokogawa also develops AI-based autonomous plant control — in 2022, together with JSR and ENEOS, it carried out one of the world's first deployments of reinforcement learning for long-duration autonomous control of a real chemical plant. The company primarily serves the oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical, pharmaceutical, food processing and semiconductor manufacturing industries. Yokogawa is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (ticker 6841) and is a constituent of the Nikkei 225 index.
