FLUX is a family of image generation models (text-to-image and image-to-image) developed by Black Forest Labs — a German startup from Freiburg founded by former Stability AI employees (Robin Rombach, Andreas Blattmann, Patrick Esser). The models are based on rectified-flow transformer blocks scaled to 12 billion parameters. The first generation, FLUX.1 (August 2024), came in three variants: [pro] (proprietary, API access), [dev] (source-available, non-commercial license) and [schnell] (open source, Apache 2.0, speed-optimized).
