About
Kimi is a family of LLM models and companion chatbot developed by Chinese company Moonshot AI (founded in March 2023 in Beijing by Yang Zhilin). The first release in October 2023 stood out for a record lossless context of 128K tokens - it was the first AI model capable of accepting such long input. Subsequent versions continued specialising in long context and increasingly strong agentics. Key milestones: K1.5 (January 2025, matching OpenAI o1 in math and coding), K2 (July 2025, 1T MoE, open-source under a modified MIT license, SOTA in coding), Kimi-Researcher (autonomous research agent, June 2025), Kimi Linear (October 2025, 48B MoE with Kimi Delta Attention), K2.5 (January 2026, Visual Agentic Intelligence - multimodal), K2.6 (April 2026, 1000 collaborating agents, 13h continuous coding, 5-day autonomous run), K2.7 Code (June 2026, open coding model). The kimi.com chatbot had over 36M MAU (October 2024). The 'OK Computer' feature (named after the Radiohead album, September 2025) is an agent creating multi-page websites and editable slides.
