ANYdrive is ANYbotics' integrated drive module built around a Series Elastic Actuator (SEA) architecture. A single sealed housing combines a brushless BLDC motor, a high-ratio harmonic reducer, a torsion spring in series with the output shaft and integrated encoder, power-stage driver and torque sensing.
The series spring enables high-fidelity torque measurement and absorbs impacts, which lets ANYmal C, ANYmal D and ANYmal X traverse uneven terrain, descend stairs or even fall without damaging the drive. ANYdrive communicates with the robot's main controller over an EtherCAT bus.
PMSM Joint Actuator · serves as: Joint Actuation, Locomotion Drive, Torque Transmission, Closed-Loop Drive Control, Balance and Posture Control. · compatible with: Quadruped, Legged Robot, Industrial Robot.
Which group ANYbotics ANYdrive belongs to and how it is built
A subcategory covering joint actuators — integrated drive units combining a motor, gearbox, encoder, and control electronics in a single module, used in the joints of robot limbs and torsos.
A PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) joint actuator is an integrated drive module that uses a permanent magnet synchronous motor to provide precise position, velocity, and torque control at robot joints. It offers high power density, low losses, and deterministic torque response, making it a popular choice in robotic manipulators, exoskeletons, and humanoid robots. The unit typically integrates an encoder, gearbox, and motor controller into a single compact assembly.
