An EMG armband sensor is a wearable band equipped with an array of surface electromyography (sEMG) electrodes, placed on the forearm. It records the electrical potentials generated by muscle contractions and โ after signal amplification and processing โ enables recognition of hand and arm gestures.
Such sensors are used as a human-machine interface (HMI): for touch-free control of robots and manipulators, teleoperation, control of prosthetics and exoskeletons, and learning robots from demonstration. EMG armbands typically communicate wirelessly with the control system.
