BQ76952

BQ76952 is an advanced battery management system (BMS) IC by Texas Instruments, designed for Li-ion, Li-polymer, and LiFePO4 packs with 3 to 16 cells in series. The device measures cell voltages with accuracy below 10 mV (typical) and features an integrated coulomb counter with input offset error below 1 µV (typical).

The chip offers a comprehensive protection suite including voltage, temperature, current protection, and internal diagnostics. The integrated charge pump driver supports high-side NFET switches with optional autonomous recovery. It supports up to 9 external thermistors and OTP memory programmable by the customer on the production line. Voltage tolerance on cell-connect pins is 85 V.

BQ76952 operates in SLEEP (24–41 µA) and DEEPSLEEP (9–10 µA) modes, making it suitable for long standby applications. The device is available in a 48-pin TQFP (PFB) package and is supported by Battery Management Studio (bqStudio) software.

Market class

Power Systems is a subcategory of hardware components responsible for managing electrical power in a robot or its modules. It encompasses power supplies, power distribution modules, voltage converters, protection circuits, battery management systems (BMS), and other power infrastructure elements. In robotics, power systems are critical to the reliability, safety, and stable operation of all subsystems.

The BMS (Battery Management System) module is an electronic circuit that supervises the operation of a battery pack. It monitors cell voltage, current, temperature, and state of charge, while also handling cell balancing and protection against overload, overcharge, and deep discharge. In robotics, the BMS module is critical for the safety, reliability, and longevity of the power system.
